Leadership Delta — The Torque¶

Discipline 2 of 3 · Seven dimensions · What leaders do differently
The Leadership Delta is the measurable gap between current leadership capability and what AI-era leadership demands. Not a competency model (static) but a delta (dynamic, assessable, closable). Every dimension is defined by observable behaviors, not personality traits. The delta closes through practice, not training.
Each dimension is assessed across three levels of leadership:
- Leading Self — Personal practice, identity, daily habits
- Leading Teams — How you enable, coach, and create conditions for others
- Leading Systems — How you shape the organizational context, structure, and incentives
The Seven Dimensions¶
| # | Dimension | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Strategic Imagination | Replacing fixed "future state" vision with adaptive, directional narrative |
| 2 | Active Modeling | An AI sponsor who doesn't use AI is a contradiction |
| 3 | Creative Cultivation | Creating the conditions for experimentation and learning |
| 4 | Friction Courage | Removing structural obstacles rather than just "supporting" change |
| 5 | Trust Calibration | Modeling both appropriate trust and appropriate skepticism |
| 6 | Ethical Stewardship | Practicing moral reasoning about AI, not delegating it to compliance |
| 7 | Systems Orchestration | Seeing and acting on the whole system, not just the parts |
